Yay it's Friday! I love the weekends. We started ours off with a movie during breakfast, and a trip to Sea World. I really love living 5 minutes away from that place. Now that school's in, we get to go ride rides and see shows without having to wait in lines or fight any crowds.
I pulled this chair out from it's folded up storage spot last night so I could sit on the porch and read my new book, The Help, which I'm loving so far. I hadn't had a chance to put it away yet and Boston was excited to see something new in the living room when he woke up this morning. He looked too cute all cuddled up in there drinking his juice. I had to take a picture. I know he doesn't fall under the category of "5 favorite gluten free foods," but he's definitely a favorite.
Onto the gluten free foods now.
First of all, you can't judge this one until you've tried it. I know it sounds weird, and looks weird, but it's good! I love it. It's even passed the guy taste test. I had Scott try it one day and he thought it was pretty good.
1. Rice cakes with 1/2 C. plain greek yogurt, 1 T. peanut butter, 1 T. jelly.
Mix it all together, and you have a creamy and delicious breakfast/snack/treat, whatever you want to call it.
2. Mrs. Mays White Sesame Strips.
I love Costco. I saw these bars there a few weeks ago and noticed they were gluten free, so I thought I'd give them a try. I would describe them as unique, but tasty. They're basically just sesame seeds with dried fruit and sweetener. I like to keep non-perishable grab and go snacks on hand for various outings such as Sea World. We actually had some of these at Sea World today!
3. Sweet potatoes cooked in a crockpot.
I've always cooked my sweet potatoes in the oven, and they tend to ooze out all over the place and make a big mess. I learned from a friend that you can just stick them right in a crockpot (don't forget to poke fork holes), and cook on low for about 4 hours. Voila. No mess, super soft sweet potatoes!
4. Nature's Path Crunchy Vanilla Sunrise Cereal.
Another Costco find. This cereal is so good! I normally stick with corn chex and rice chex mixed with berries on top, which is also really good, but I love having something different every once in awhile too! I think I'll have to buy this every time I see it at Costco from now on.
5. E.D. Smith Raspberry Cherry Pomegranite Acai fruit spread.
I don't think I'll ever be able to buy regular jelly again after tasting this stuff. This was also a recent Costco purchase. Can you see why I love Costco? Not only does this fruit spread taste delicious, but it has half the calories and sugar as regular jam. I love mixing this with plain greek yogurt too, except I don't add peanut butter when I use this jam because it's too good all by itself to have to compete with the peanut butter taste.
What's one of your favorite snacks right now?
What's your favorite cereal at the moment?
umm.. you should see the bottom of my stove.. I am totally cooking sweet potatoes in the crock pot from now on!! and I really want to try that ms. mays bar!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea for sweet potatoes cooked in the crockpot. Genius!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite cereal right now would have to be rice chex. I finally stopped buying the Cinnamon kind because I go through the box in hours!
