Yoga Breakthrough, and a Summer Night Run!

Yesterday was a good workout day. I had my first inkling that I might actually become a yoga lover one of these days, and then I was pleasantly surprised by a "cool" summer night's run. I had to put cool in parenthesis because it was only cool relatively speaking since it was still in the 90's. It felt so good though! There was even a nice breeze.

I started my day with Bob Harper's Weight Loss Yoga on level one. I never thought I could learn to like yoga, but I think I might be making a breakthrough. In the past, every time I attempted a yoga workout, I felt like my patience was getting more exercise than anything else. When I saw this dvd on Amazon as I was using up the last of my birthday gift card, I thought I'd give yoga another chance. Maybe it was the weight loss label on the front that piqued my curiosity, or maybe it was the fact that I'd heard so many other people talk about how awesome yoga made them feel. Whatever it was, I'm glad I decided to give it another shot, because I think I'm joining the "yoga makes me feel awesome club."  Level one is 25 minutes including the warm-up. I'll stick with that for a little while longer and hopefully work my way up to the entire hour someday!

I still have a hard time thinking of yoga as a workout, but I told Scott last night that when I view yoga as something that makes me feel good rather than a workout, I really like it. After yoga I did a little more strengthening on the gym ball.

I rarely get the best of both worlds when it comes to eating and exercising. Not only could I not keep my hands out of that Costco sized chocolate chip bag in our freezer, but I thought some bluebell ice-cream would make a good pre-run snack. (It actually sat a lot better than I thought it would during my run.) I got lucky. :) I'll try not to push my luck too often though.

I got all excited about the "cool" weather and didn't bring any water with me. I still have the mentality that anything less than 10 miles doesn't need water. Now that I live in a place with quadruple the humidity of Utah, I need to change that mentality. Quadruple humidity means quadruple sweat rate which means quadruple thirst rate. I was really wishing for some water right about 4 miles. I ended up doing about 5.25 miles. I wish I could have made it 6, but that water was calling to me. It was still a great run though!

When I got home from the run I had to get creative with my salad toppings because I'm out of all my staple foods. A Costco trip is definitely on the list of to-do's. This salad was still pretty good, but it wasn't nearly as good as this salad. It consisted of an under-ripe peach, craisins, grapes, parmesan, and raspberry vinaigrette.

I guess the ice-cream and chocolate chips weren't enough sugar to satisfy my sweet tooth for the day, so I had to have a smoothie too. I need to work on taming my sweet tooth! It's out of control.
