1. I have a goal in life to eat an entire half gallon of ice-cream in one sitting.
2. I first voiced this goal 3 years ago.
3. I first attempted this goal 3 weeks ago.
I finally decided to give my "Ice-Cream Challenge" goal a try, so I did what all successful goal-getters do...
Set a date: April 18th (Conveniently the night of the Boston Marathon where I knew I would have a few thousand calories to spare, and therefore could not back out for fear that I might wake up the size of an elephant the next day.)
Found a support group: My husband. He was even going to do it with me!
And most importantly, chose the flavors: Mint brownie and Oreo.
Scott and I decided to each pick a flavor and cut them in half so we wouldn't get too sick of the same flavor.
I was pretty excited to find out what it felt like to eat ice-cream to my heart's content. I've always loved ice-cream, but I've also always had a guilty health-conscience that keeps me from eating the entire carton. I'm queen of the spoon-in-the-carton method of ice-cream eating. Anyone else out there a spoon-in-the-carton ice-cream eater, or just me? I tell myself that I just want one, (or maybe two or three) spoonfuls of ice-cream, and that's my reasoning for not getting a bowl. BUT, I know deep down my real reasoning for not getting a bowl is so I can "accidentally" eat a massive amount without having to fill my bowl up 3 times. Plus, I love when the ice-cream gets all melty around the edges of the carton. You spoon-in-the-carton people know what I'm talking about. I know, it's shameful, but confession is the first step right? Anyway, my love for ice-cream/health-conscience battles left me curious what would happen if I turned that little annoying health-conscience of mine OFF. Hence the goal to eat an entire half gallon of ice-cream in one sitting. The only rules were to eat until I absolutely could not stuff another bite in, AND my little annoying health-conscience was not invited to this party.
I almost backed out, but luckily I had previously set myself up for success by finding such an awesome support group! Here he is back at the hotel with the ice-cream flavors evenly divided. We're almost ready to go, just one more thing....we have to get the laptop set up so we can catch up on last week's Biggest Loser episode! Yes, it's true. This little shenanigan went down while watching no other than the Biggest Loser.
And here's the outcome....
Top: Scott. Bottom: Me.
Scott's excuse was that he was having an "off" day. I'll give it to him. We all have "off" days right? My excuse was that I ran a marathon that day, so my appetite wasn't as good. I actually think I would do better at this challenge on a non-marathon day, but convincing my guilty health-conscience to let me is a different story. It was, however, a new ice-cream eating PR for me! I figured since I didn't get the marathon PR I had hoped for that day, I could at least get an ice-cream eating PR. I might just have to make this a post-marathon tradition.
To go along with knowing what it feels like to run until I can't possibly run another step, I now know what it feels like to eat ice-cream until I can't possibly eat another bite. Talk about a day of extremes.
What flavors would you choose for an ice-cream challenge?
What do you reward yourself with after a race?

I'm impressed.
ReplyDeleteThis is basically the best idea EVER! I would choose mint chocolate chip, pb cup or cookie dough. And I think I could do it I once ate a whole ice cream cake in one sitting (the Carvel smiley face cake w/ 8 servings)
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of that show, Man vs. Food. I think his strategy is to pick a boring flavor and pick the "light" version so it doesn't fill you up so quickly, but where's the fun in that?! I like they way you did it much better :)
